Marine Engineering

PolyPoint Ab Oy was founded in 1998 and the services we provide are split into two main disciplines: marine engineering and engineering for building services.

Within marine engineering, our services have mainly been focused on Nautor´s Swan and Baltic Yachts. At Nautor´s Swan we have been involved in models in the range of 56-112 ft. At Baltic Yachts we are currently busy with several models, ranging between 62-197 ft. We have worked with both companies for nearly 10 years.

Traditionally we have been working with software like: AutoCad, SolidWorks, IronCad and Rhinoceros. During the last years we have experienced some problems with software in different situations, mainly when it comes to the ability to handle large assemblys. Even though there are “workarounds” to some of the problems they always come with a certain price.

Recognising the software problem, we started to look for a new platform and a new improved way of working. After having compared a few high-end cad programs, taking part in trainings and doing extensive tests of our own, we have chosen to go with Dassault Systémes CATIA. We have started with our first license during the summer and will gradually shift over more and more to CATIA.

In January 2010, we will start a 120 h long training in CATIA, for our own staff combined with other invited companies within the yachting community in the region.
